Give your child a few "important" tasks such as digging a hole or watering a specific part of the garden or grass. Give your child a garden shovel, a watering can and hose. With these three basic tools your child just might occupy himself long enough for you to do some basic maintenance to your garden.
Once your done, step back and with your child, admire the work you've both done.
