Preschoolers love rhymes and songs. They're old enough to sing along and as their understanding of language develops, they start to laugh at silly songs.
Try changing the words of favorite songs such as, Itsy Bitsy Spider. Instead of a spider, sing "A big fat elephant climbed a water spout". Your child will laugh when he imagines an elephant climbing a waterspout. Or what about a long skinny stick bug? Use animals and insects your child is familiar with.
Humpty Dumpty is another rhyme kids like. Watch your child laugh as you sing, "Humpty Dumpty had purple hair. Humpty Dumpty sat on a chair."
Encourage your child to make up his own words. No need for your child to make a ryhme, just experiment with language and laugh about it.
